Turn simple into ultra simple
Brassie |
The brassie is a great fly because it just plain produces fish. Similar to a Zebra midge, it is designed for maximum simplicity, and effectiveness. With the wide array of wire products out now from UTC and other companies, there are many different color combinations that can be achieved.
This video is designed to help you tie cleaner, faster brassies. The key is to eliminate thread under the body of the fly. Check out the video for demonstration.

Great tying method. I use the same method to tie size 18, 20, and 22 copper johns while using 3 strands of ultra wire to get different colors. On top of being really easy, it lets me get a thin enough body--I am convinced almost all commercial mayfly patterns are too thick in the body.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I have found really helpful is using a pair of curved toenail clippers to trim the wire. They make it really easy to trim any material flush to the hook.
Good idea with the clippers...
DeleteWow, that is beyond ultra simple! Very nice tie!
ReplyDeleteI definitely like the idea of clippers to cut the wire, too.
Awesome, I am excited to tie some of these in different colors.
ReplyDeleteGreat technique .... I like to use a MIG welder to finish it at the back. J/K.
ReplyDeleteI agree with one of the comments above about the body sizes. These need to be smooth and nothing smoother than wire right on the hook. Great website dudes.
thanks
