Tale of Two Baetis Patterns

Simple vs Complicated

If you have ever worked in a fly shop you have been asked "which flies are working" a LOT...  It's all good because it's a valid question that can give you the confidence you need to catch fish.  Confidence in your fly can be the difference between a decent day of fishing and a really great day of fishing, and confidence many times is more important than having the best fly pattern.  The two patterns pictured above are good examples of: 1- a fly that is super simple to tie, and 2- a fly that is a little bit more complicated with more moving parts.  It's interesting that they both will fish exceptionally well in the same circumstances if you fish them with confidence...  Fish.  With.  Confidence.
